ATEX hazardous area installations: design and installation

Engineering, installation and upgrading of electrical and instrumentation installations in areas with explosive atmospheres, with our own staff trained in ATEX equipment.

ATEX hazardous area installations: design and installation

We design, install and upgrade electrical and instrumentation installations in ATEX classified areas, with our own installation team.

In an area at risk of an explosive atmosphere, every piece of equipment, cable and connection must suit the area classification. That is why we apply ATEX requirements from the engineering stage —in the selection of equipment and materials— through to installation, testing and final documentation.

What we do

ATEX engineering

  • Selection of equipment and components with marking suited to the zone
  • Intrinsic safety barriers and isolators in cabinets
  • Measures against the build-up of electrostatic charges
  • Electrical schematics and technical documentation

Installation and connection

  • Installation and connection of Ex instrumentation
  • Junction boxes and cable glands suited to the zone
  • Installation of barriers and adaptation of cabinet wiring
  • Electrical installation of the supplied equipment

Upgrading existing installations

  • Review of markings and suitability of equipment for its zone
  • Replacement of junction boxes and cable glands
  • Correction of installation deficiencies
  • Updating of schematics and documentation

Testing and commissioning

  • Testing and calibration of the instrumentation in scope
  • Commissioning
  • Installation reviews and inspection records, according to the scope of each project

The installation reviews we carry out are part of the technical scope of each project and do not replace the statutory inspection by a notified inspection body.

Staff trained in ATEX equipment

Our installation team is our own, with specific training in the installation, maintenance and inspection of ATEX equipment to EN 60079-17: reading area classification drawings, checking markings, inspecting equipment, and selecting and installing cables and cable glands.

Frequently asked questions

What is an ATEX zone?

It is an area where an explosive atmosphere may form due to flammable gases, vapours, mists or dusts. It is classified into zones according to the likelihood of that atmosphere being present, and that classification determines which equipment can be installed and how.

Can you upgrade an existing installation?

Yes. We review equipment markings against the zone where it is installed, replace junction boxes and cable glands, correct installation deficiencies and update schematics and documentation.

Do your reviews replace the statutory inspection?

No. The installation reviews and inspection records we prepare are part of the technical scope of each project; the statutory inspection is the responsibility of a notified inspection body.

Are your staff trained in ATEX?

Yes. We have staff with specific training in the installation, maintenance and inspection of ATEX equipment to EN 60079-17.

Do you have an installation in an ATEX zone?

If you need to design, install or upgrade an electrical or instrumentation installation in a classified area, tell us about your project.
