Basic and detailed engineering

Electrical, instrumentation and control engineering: from defining the solution to the documentation for manufacturing, installation and commissioning.

Basic and detailed engineering

Over 40 years developing electrical, automation and instrumentation engineering projects for industry: reliable, efficient and fully documented solutions, ready for construction and operation.

We have extensive experience in the design and documentation of electrical installations and industrial instrumentation. Our approach combines technical precision, knowledge of the standards and an overall view of each project, ensuring quality and consistency from engineering through to final installation.

Basic engineering: defining the solution

Basic engineering sets the foundation on which all the detail is developed. Starting from the process data and the site conditions, we agree with the customer the project requirements, the electrical, instrumentation and control scope, the design criteria and the overall system architecture.

With that definition, the detailed electrical, instrumentation and control engineering starts from the same basis and is developed consistently across disciplines. How documents are split between the basic and detailed phases follows what each contract sets out.

Detailed engineering: documentation for manufacturing, installation and commissioning

We develop the detailed engineering of complex industrial facilities, covering:

  • Electrical power and control design
  • Instrumentation loop design
  • I/O signal allocation
  • Integration with control systems (PLC, DCS)
  • Complete technical documentation

We use leading industry tools, which allow us to guarantee precise, consistent and traceable documentation, making both installation and later maintenance easier and ensuring compliance with the highest international standards.

Bills of quantities and cost estimates for tendering

We prepare the bill of quantities and the cost estimate for the electrical, instrumentation and control scope so that the customer can request quotations and put the execution of the works out to tender with other companies.

  • The customer can commission the engineering and tender documentation even if MIESA does not carry out the works afterwards
  • The cost estimate values the works to be tendered
  • It is not a commercial offer from MIESA to carry out those works

Depending on the assignment, this work can be complemented with other documents from the list of deliverables, such as technical specifications, requests for quotation or the technical evaluation of the offers received.

Instrumentation advice and supply

In addition to engineering, we offer a complete service of selection, technical advice and supply of industrial instrumentation, working with the main brands on the market.

From the process data (temperature, flow, pressure, fluid type, installation conditions and functional requirements) we prepare the instrument datasheets and define the most suitable solution for each application. This optimises technical selection, aligning functionality, standards and budget.

Reverse engineering of existing facilities

When a facility’s documentation is not up to date, we carry out reverse engineering and redraw its schematics and drawings. This is the basis of our control system migration projects.

Functional safety and ATEX

Safety built in from the engineering stage

Functional safety studies and verification (SIL/LOPA) for critical processes, to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.

  • Safe architectures by design
  • Correctly specified safety instrumented functions (SIF)
  • Safety PLC programming and Safety Matrix configuration with traceability on site

Design for ATEX environments

We apply ATEX regulations from the early stages of the electrical design.

  • Technical justification for the selection of equipment and protection methods
  • Electrical and thermal calculations for ATEX validation
  • Optimisation to declassify or reduce hazardous areas
